Had a chance this week to speak with Jason Mitchell, who played Eazy-E in “Straight Outta Compton,” and now has a critical role in Kathryn Bigelow’s “Detroit,” which opens in limited release this weekend and wide next Friday. I’ve had a chance to see the film, which centers around three murders at the Algiers Hotel during the unrest in Detroit in 1967. I’d never heard of the Algiers Hotel, and the story is incredibly powerful, and powerfully told.

Worth seeing when you can, and it’s worth listening to Mitchell talk about the experience of making the film, and how his role in “Straight Outta Compton” informed his research.
