If you like documentaries, it’s worth checking out “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond,” a fantastic film diving into the making of the great Andy Kaufman biopic, “Man on the Moon,” starring Jim Carrey. It was a stellar performance in which Carrey not only channeled Kaufman on screen, but off as well. Needless to say, it created all sorts of problems on set. Not just because Carrey was going full method actor portraying the unpredictable, mercurial comedian, but also his vulgar alter ego Tony Clifton.
We spoke to director Chris Smith about the making of the movie, and what he learned about Carrey in what is a fascinating look at his career, fame, and the pain that makes comedy.
The movie debuts Friday on Netflix. Check it out.
