Are the Lakers Good Yet? Plus Tom Petty and the R’n'R HOF

Posted by on Oct 5, 2017 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion, Podcast |

So three preseason games in, are the 2017-18 Lakers good yet? No? Why not? We discuss. From there, what are the most interesting parts of the annual NBA GM Survey? Where does Lonzo Ball fit into it all? And are the Lakers going a little overboard fueling the Lonzo Hype Machine? Finally (on the basketball end of things, at least) Luke Walton dropped some serious hints as to what type of year he thinks this is for his developing group. We decode.

In non-sports news, the death of Tom Petty was (rightly and understandably) overshadowed by the horrendous violence in Las Vegas, but worth some reflection. And as we do every year, it’s time to break down this year’s nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

New Days for the Lakers, Melo in OKC, and Protesting Players?

Posted by on Sep 28, 2017 in Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion |

It’s here! The season is here!

For starters, there really is a brand new feel to things in El Segundo, as the Lakers opened up their new facility earlier this week. It’s swanky. So things kicked off as they have in recent seasons, with an emphasis on D. Can the Lakers fix it? Is the best path to doing so… on offense? What about Jordan Clarkson’s 6MOY prospects… or even his prospects of staying on the team all season. Finally, Larry Nance is a confident man, these days. What does that mean?

Nationally, Carmelo is a Thunder. (This is why teams should end in s.) Wade is a Cav. What does this mean for them, and more importantly, for the Lakers and their Summer of ’18? Finally, what will the NBA look like this season from a social justice standpoint? Do the NFL-style protests continue on the hardwood?

Brandon Ingram… Untouchable?

Posted by on May 26, 2017 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion |

After a technical foul in our first try for this week’s podcast, we’re back with a 2.0. And people, it’s bigger, and better than the first. So you’re lucky we had to go back.

On the agenda…

  • Lonzo Ball says he won’t work out for the Celtics… but will work out for Philly.
  • Magic Johnson says Brandon Ingram is basically untouchable. Should he be?
  • Gunnar Peterson, LA’s new strength and conditioning guy!

And from there…

  • The Finals are set. Can Cleveland pull the upset?
  • What does this do for LeBron’s legacy, whether compared to Kobe (thanks for bringing it up, Scottie Pippen) or LeBron James?

And from there…

How Good Is the Young Core (Compared To All the Others)?

Posted by on Apr 5, 2017 in Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion, Podcast | 3 comments

The big question facing the Lakers as the season winds down (other than those related to lottery odds) centers around the young core, and determining where the Lakers need to go from here. How good are these guys, exactly? How do they compare with other young cores around the league? The answer goes a long way to determining just how far the Lakers need to go, given all the teams they need to jump to reach the top — or even the semi-top — of the Western Conference.

It was a theme running through a few big picture NBA features this week, whether talking about the best of the worst teams in the Association, or how re-do’s of the last two Drafts might look.

All that, plus big headlines (KD returning, Cleveland bickering) and a Hallmark Christmas Quiz.

Happy D’Angelo, Ingram the 6th Man, and a Statue for Metta

Posted by on Sep 23, 2016 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion, Podcast | 2 comments

The Lakers are (almost) back!

And that means we are, too! With a few minor adjustments. Like a total lack of music, thanks to some licensing questions with ESPN podcasts. So rather than run afoul of the law, we’ll abide until we can find a workaround.

But thankfully, we’re still plenty able to talk hoops. And with Monday’s media day right around the corner, we tackle the big topics of conversation surrounding the purple and gold. Start with D’Angelo Russell, who hearts the new coaching staff in ways he, well, may not have hearted the previous one. So how much shade is Russell really throwing Byron Scott?

What about Luke Walton’s decision to bring Brandon Ingram off the bench? Then there are projections! ESPN has the Lakers pegged to win 24.5 games this year. Too high? Too low? Or juuuuuuust right? (Surely there’s a way to win a half game somewhere.)

Finally, the Lakers have signed Metta World Peace to one more make-good deal. Occasion enough to give him a statue! And, of course, more Secret Audio From the LaMarcus Aldridge Pitch Meeting.
