So the market seems to be percolating! Paul George! LeBron James! And now… Kawhi Leonard? How available is he? How much would/should the Lakers give up to get him?

What does it mean for the Lakers this summer if they strike out on the big names? How much do optics matter when assessing the work Magic and Pelinka are doing to rehab the franchise’s image?

Does it matter that Gregg Popovich is reportedly uninterested in Lonzo Ball because of the LaVar show? Or that, at least as far as the rumor mill goes, LeBron has no interest, either? Is there a point where LaVar moves from sideshow to problem?

All this and more, with special guest, Bill Oram of The Athletic!

Playoffs, Baby! Gearing Up For a Crazy Summer

Posted by on May 19, 2018 in Opinion, Podcast |

The Conference Finals are here, and in some ways are more interesting thanks to what happens after them, rather than during. What if Houston, now tied 1-1, goes down quickly from here on? What if the Celtics beat the Cavs (as we both think will happen)? Does that mean LeBron is gone? To Houston? To L.A. ? Could Boston, stacked with too many good players, trade Kyrie?

And what about that Houston/GSW series? Did “adjustments” happen? Or did Houston just do Houston stuff better? Are there any adjustments good enough to get Cleveland through to the Finals?

We kick around all this, plus talk a little Boogie Cousins. Is he doing this free agency thing right?

The 2017-18 Lakers Season Reviewed, and Previewing the Playoffs

Posted by on Apr 15, 2018 in Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion |

Another year down, and another in the recent run of playoff-free seasons for the purple and gold. That said, was this a successful season for the Lakers? On the one hand, there was a nine-game improvement from last year to this one, which is nothing to sneeze at particularly given the injuries. But what about the young guys? The front office?  Did the Lakers turn the tide on a negative national narrative surrounding the team?

We discuss.

From there, we kick around two significant Kobe anniversaries that came this week — first, five years from the Achilles tear, and two from the 60-point effort capping off his career.

Finally, it’s NBA Playoffs time! We talk about the most intriguing storylines, and make some bold — BOLD!!! – predictions.

Missing Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma’s Wall, and … Anthony Davis?

Posted by on Jan 18, 2018 in Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion, Podcast |

This week in Lakerland, we learned once again what we knew last week, namely that the Lakers just aren’t as interesting, nor competitive, without Lonzo Ball. And it’s not even close. And as Lonzo starts to put together more solid games, the statistical contributions he’s making as a rookie are becoming more clear. We discuss, with data!

As Lonzo rises, Kyle Kuzma could be hitting the proverbial wall. His efficiency has declined month to month this season, and since Christmas has bottomed out. So what’s going on there, and how fast might it change? What does the bump in Kuzma’s road say about Julius Randle’s value? How will the Lakers deal with Randle at the deadline?

It’s one of a few trade related questions we ask, including this one: Would you trade the farm — Lonzo, Brandon Ingram, Kuzma, Randle — for Anthony Davis? We break it down both the micro (Does Davis get hurt too much? Do you know free agents would follow) and macro (Do you do whatever it takes to acquire a player you know is transcendent, even if it means taking on serious risk?

And finally… THE STATUE GAME IS BACK! In honor of the Lakers signing Gary Payton II, we give out a Lakers statue to the original.

Brandon Ingram… Untouchable?

Posted by on May 26, 2017 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion |

After a technical foul in our first try for this week’s podcast, we’re back with a 2.0. And people, it’s bigger, and better than the first. So you’re lucky we had to go back.

On the agenda…

  • Lonzo Ball says he won’t work out for the Celtics… but will work out for Philly.
  • Magic Johnson says Brandon Ingram is basically untouchable. Should he be?
  • Gunnar Peterson, LA’s new strength and conditioning guy!

And from there…

  • The Finals are set. Can Cleveland pull the upset?
  • What does this do for LeBron’s legacy, whether compared to Kobe (thanks for bringing it up, Scottie Pippen) or LeBron James?

And from there…
