Jordan Clarkson the 6th man, good CBA news, and Sasha statues!

Posted by on Oct 11, 2016 in Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Lakers Analysis, Lakers News, Lou Williams, Opinion, Podcast | 1 comment

With preseason games 2 and 3 in the books, we have a little better feel for this Lakers team, and for the first time in a while… the sun is poking through the clouds!

This team, in our humble opinion, still isn’t going to win a ton of games, but on both sides of the ball have given Lakers fans all the feels to this point in the fake game schedule. Some of the more interesting trends: Jordan Clarkson has come off the bench for all three games, with Lou Williams as a starter. The results have been positive all around, so will Luke Walton stick with that lineup? If so, is that a good thing? Julius Randle has improved his playmaking skills over the offseason. How far can he take it? What about Brandon Ingram? Any concern over his slow start?

This after kicking around some big news, including happy reports on negotiations for a new CBA, and a very unusual ambassadorship for Yao Ming.

Plus, we reveal our most intriguing non-Warriors/Cavs teams in both conferences. Then we cap it off not just with statues for Sasha Vujacic, but a rousing game of Sasha Vujacic trivia!

It’s likely more than you can handle in a single episode, but we’re willing to risk it.

Happy D’Angelo, Ingram the 6th Man, and a Statue for Metta

Posted by on Sep 23, 2016 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion, Podcast | 2 comments

The Lakers are (almost) back!

And that means we are, too! With a few minor adjustments. Like a total lack of music, thanks to some licensing questions with ESPN podcasts. So rather than run afoul of the law, we’ll abide until we can find a workaround.

But thankfully, we’re still plenty able to talk hoops. And with Monday’s media day right around the corner, we tackle the big topics of conversation surrounding the purple and gold. Start with D’Angelo Russell, who hearts the new coaching staff in ways he, well, may not have hearted the previous one. So how much shade is Russell really throwing Byron Scott?

What about Luke Walton’s decision to bring Brandon Ingram off the bench? Then there are projections! ESPN has the Lakers pegged to win 24.5 games this year. Too high? Too low? Or juuuuuuust right? (Surely there’s a way to win a half game somewhere.)

Finally, the Lakers have signed Metta World Peace to one more make-good deal. Occasion enough to give him a statue! And, of course, more Secret Audio From the LaMarcus Aldridge Pitch Meeting.

The Lakers get the 2nd pick … now what?

Posted by on May 19, 2016 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Mitch Kupchak, Opinion, Podcast |

2nd pick, baby!

The Lakers won the silver medal in the (Rigged??? Rigged!!!) NBA Draft Lottery, so they’ll keep their pick in this June’s festivities. If the Sixers select Ben Simmons, the Lakers will select Brandon Ingram. If the Sixers take Ingram, Simmons will join his buddy D’Angelo Russell in L.A.

Debate who’s the better fit or who has the higher ceiling, but the bottom line is either could be a major piece for the Lakers as they continue rebuilding.

Assuming, of course, the Lakers plan to keep either kid around. Might they be looking to package “SimGram” as part of a deal to land an established star like DeMarcus Cousins, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, etc.? How much would the Lakers need to give up to make that happen? Would that actually make sense?

We chop it all up, plus talk about Steven Adams’ “quick little monkeys” comment, Chris Bosh’s basketball future, referees missing fouls during the playoffs, a statue for Mitch Kupchak statue, and more secret audio from the ill-fated LaMarcus Aldridge meeting.

Howard Beck on Kobe Bryant, Remembering Prince

Posted by on Apr 22, 2016 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio, Opinion, Podcast |

Thursday was a tough one for music fans across the globe, with the death of Prince. He was 57, and leaves behind a legacy in music and performance matched by few artists, if any.

It was in the shadow of that news we went into the studio, and while the agenda changed pretty considerably, there was still plenty of good conversation on what became a day of remembrances, albeit very different ones. We started by welcoming the great Howard Beck of Bleacher Report, who covered Kobe Bryant for the L.A. Daily News from the time he was drafted through the end of the Shaq/Kobe era. With Howard’s help, we look at the guy all of us have spent so much of our professional lives talking and writing about. Then, what’s next for the Lakers, and how does Kobe’s legend impact the answer?

From there, Andy and I talk about the influence Prince had on us, why we loved the music, and why it’s so difficult to digest the news that he’s gone.

Development vs. Winning, Drafting Kobe, Vlade’s Statue, and Kanye’s Condor

Posted by on Mar 15, 2016 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Kobe Bryant, Lakers Analysis, Lakers Audio |

The Lakers nearly picked up a win Sunday against New York … but would it have been worth it? Once again, Byron Scott’s priorities are a topic of conversation. Is he chasing wins at the expense of development? After L.A.’s kiddie corps watched the fourth quarter against the Knicks in favor of Lou Williams, Marcelo Huertas, and Brandon Bass, many were asking the question.

So we did, too. What’s the balance between one game and season long progress?

From there, we have an excerpt from our interview with Jonathan Abrams, formerly of Grantland, and the Times NY and LA about his new book, Boys to Men: How the Prep-to-Pro Generation Redefined the NBA and Sparked a Basketball Revolution. The full conversation comes next week, but here he talks about 1996, and how Kobe got to Los Angeles.

All that, plus the news of the day (including Kanye’s offer to re-design Chuck the Condor, ostensibly in some sort of neutral colored post-apocalyptic theme), our Lakers Statue segment (featuring Vlade Divac!) and secret audio from the first LaMarcus Aldridge pitch meeting.
