PODCAST! Kobe Bryant vs. rebuilding, Pau’s vertigo, Swaggy robbed, Kanye as the lesser of three evils

Posted by on Mar 26, 2014 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Kobe Bryant, Lakers Analysis, Mike D'Antoni, Mitch Kupchak, Nick Young, Opinion, Pau Gasol, Phil Jackson, Podcast | 2 comments

The Lakers are now undefeated in games played at Staples Center where Phil Jackson watches as Knicks President from a luxury suite. If Mike D’Antoni can figure out a way to replicate this formula, the team may be able to end this season on a surprisingly positive note.

The show can be heard by clicking on the module, and a list of talking points can be found below. Among the high points.

  • We stroll through the latest headlines. LeBron James and Adam Silver will meet this offseason to discuss the possible elimination of sherseys. Greveis Vasquez declares Kevin Durant “Jesus.” Mark Cuban calls out the NFL’s impending business model.  Is the Eastern Conference now a legitimate playoff race?
  • Kobe Bryant sat down with ESPN’s Darren Rovell to discuss basketball and business. As far as hoops goes, Kobe offered his faith in Jeanie and Jim Buss, but reiterated his impatience with a slow and steady rebuild. How big of a problem is this moving forward?
  • In the meantime, Kobe Inc. has opened up shop, with Bryant lending his presence and dollars to a sports drink called BodyArmour. How does this investment reflect the prospects of Kobe’s post-playing career?
  • Pau Gasol has vertigo. No. Seriously. Vertigo. At this points, are there any bizarre injuries and ailments left for the Lakers to endure?
  • Nick Young got robbed Sunday night, but the joke may actually be on the assholes who stole his clothes and jewelry.
  • It’s time for AAK!!! What movies have scared the K Bros most over the years? Rank the following in terms of quality company: Kanye West, Lindsay Lohan, Justin Bieber.
  • The New York Post reported Monday that former NBA player Quinton Ross was found murdered. As it turns out, the deceased was a different man named Quinton Ross. But hey, at least the Post was “first!”

Podcast! Pau’s complaints, the future of Swaggy P, the NFL N-Word penalty and Harold Ramis

Posted by on Feb 27, 2014 in Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Kobe Bryant, MarShon Brooks, Mike D'Antoni, Mitch Kupchak, Nick Young, Pau Gasol, Podcast |

Only 24 games left this season. We promise. No give backs.

The show can be heard by clicking on the module, and a list of talking points is below. Among the highlights:

  • We take a look at the latest headlines. Jason Collins jerseys are in huge demand. Ray Felton is arrested on gun charges, the latest incident in a disastrous Knicks season. The NBA is considering a bigger court and a four-point line. Our thoughts?
  • After Tuesday’s loss to the Pacers, Pau Gasol issued public complaints about the team’s style of play and an overall lack of discipline. He and Mike D’Antoni have well-documented issues and will never see eye-to-eye, but are these gripes more than just a player venting against his coach? Is MDA failing to keep his players, particularly young newbies Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks, in line?
  • We introduce a brand new segment called, “Should The Lakers Bring This Guy Back Next Year?” In which we ask, “Should the Lakers bring this guy back next year?” Reasonable money and contract length assumed, of course. First up, Nick Young, who has  a player option for next season he’s widely expected not to opt. Does Swaggy P play a role in this team’s future, and will his relationship with the rather fetching rapper Iggy Azalea hinder the chances of retaining him?
  • The NFL is expected to institute a new rule penalizing players for on-field use of the N-Word. Is this a good idea? How prevalent, in our experience, is the word in the NBA workplace? Would the Association ever consider following the NFL’s lead?
  • It’s time for AAK!!! Would we rather attend our favorite band’s final concert, or our favorite team’s Game 7 with a title on the line? I share the very weird details of my worst date. And finally, we talk about our favorite movies from the recently departed Harold Ramis.

Podcast! Bizarre wins, Steve Nash’s return, Pau Gasol in limbo, 50 Shades of Sasha

Steve Blake, Steve Nash, Jordan Farmar are back. Jodie Meeks and Nick Young are now out. The names on the injury list may change, but by and large, everything else remains the same, including a largely uninterrupted string of losses. Wish we had better news to report, but these podcasts are unfortunately based on true stories.

Podcast!!! Kobe Bryant’s injury, Nick Young’s swag, onscreen movie deaths, Sacco-Gate, politics in sports

Posted by on Dec 27, 2013 in Dwyane Wade, Kamenetzky Brothers Land O'Lakers Podcast, Kobe Bryant, Lakers Analysis, Los Angeles Lakers, Mike D'Antoni, Nick Young, Podcast |

Just when the world (if not necessarily his teammates) got used to seeing Kobe Bryant on the court again, the image became merely a memory. The future Hall of Famer is sidelined again, this time with a fractured kneecap suffered in Memphis against the Grizzlies. The estimated time of recovery is at least six weeks, adding even more uncertainty to Kobe’s final years in purple and gold. In the meantime, and stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the Lakers will have to make due with a shorthanded roster.

On the plus side, the K Bros are healthy, which means the podcast is at full strength, and that’s really the most important thing at the end of the day. The show can heard by clicking on the module, and a list of talking points can be found below. Among the talking points:

  • We begin with a look at the latest headlines. Brook Lopez is out for the season, making a crappy Brooklyn Nets team, a crappy Atlantic Division, and a crappy Eastern Conference all even crappier.  Even with a gurl as purty as Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade proves his lack of cynicism by getting engaged for a second marriage. Andre Iguoala speaks! He is not the mole!
  • Kobe’s latest injury creates a multitude of talking points. To begin, how will his absence affect a largely overachieving, if completely decimated, roster?
  • Shifting towards Kobe himself, what do we make of his second significant injury since April? Is this a preview of what lies ahead, health-wise, for the superstar guard until he calls it a career? Will he be able to stay on the court, much less play at the level Kobe demands?
  • If Lakers fans don’t love Nick Young, there’s something the hell wrong with them. We explain why Swaggy P is perfect for this particular team.
  • Kendall Marshall becomes the latest reclamation project for the Lakers.
  • Will “The Wheel” be the way of the NBA draft in the near future?
  • Time for some #AAK! We discuss the fury over Justine Sacco’s unquestionably tasteless Tweet, and how it reflects the weird and often treacherous world of social media. What is the greatest onscreen death in movie history? What would be the ultimate basketball matchup? What is the appropriate role of politics in sports?
